Dining Details for Passover 2024

Throughout Passover, UCSC Dining will offer Passover options at Crown/Merrill and Porter/Kresge Dining Halls and Merrill and Porter Markets.

Crown/Merrill and Porter/Kresge Dining Halls will serve a variety of dishes for the Passover holiday, Monday, April 22–Tuesday, April 30, 2024, during dinner service on rotation at select stations. Both dining halls will serve Matzo ball soup daily for lunch and dinner and Matzo crackers and condiments will be available all day.

We are taking measures to provide thoughtful Passover dining, like:

  • Dedicating select stations for Passover menu items
  • Helping our employees understand Passover meal service

Passover dining highlights:

  • Meat and dairy will not be served together in the same menu offering.
  • Passover menu items will not contain meat from forbidden animals according to Kosher laws, such as pork and shellfish. Please note: Though some meats and other products used in the creation of these menu items may have been identified as Kosher at the time of purchase, they are not prepared in a Kosher facility that practices Kosher food preparation methods with designated cooking equipment or utensils.
  • We’ll serve a variety of Passover dishes during the week. Please check the UCSC dining menu for specific options being served daily.

There will not be a mashgiach present during the cleaning, preparing, cooking, or serving, therefore our Passover dining hall options will not meet strict Kosher standards.

Kosher products in markets:

Beginning Friday, April 19, Merrill and Porter Markets will be selling packaged, microwaveable Kosher meals as well as various Kosher items. Both markets have microwaves on site, or bring your packaged Kosher meal WITH receipt to Crown/Merrill Dining Hall or Porter/Kresge Dining Hall during the Passover holiday for no additional entry fee so you may enjoy Passover with friends.
