Dining Details for Passover 2025

Throughout Passover, UCSC Dining will offer Passover options at Cowell/Stevenson, College Nine/John R. Lewis, and Rachel Carson/Oakes Dining Halls and Merrill and Porter Markets.

Cowell/Stevenson, College Nine/John R. Lewis and Rachel Carson/Oakes Dining Halls will serve a variety of Passover-inspired dishes to celebrate the holiday, Saturday, April 12–Saturday, April 19, 2025, during dinner service at dedicated stations. Dining halls will serve Matzo ball soup daily for lunch and dinner and Matzo crackers and condiments will be available all day.

We are taking measures to provide thoughtful Passover dining, like:

  • Dedicating select stations for Passover menu items
  • Helping our employees understand Passover meal service

Passover dining highlights:

  • Meat and dairy will not be served together in the same menu offering.
  • Passover menu items will not contain meat from forbidden animals according to Kosher laws, such as pork and shellfish. Please note: Though some meats and other products used in the creation of these menu items may have been identified as Kosher at the time of purchase, they are not prepared in a Kosher facility that practices Kosher food preparation methods with designated cooking equipment or utensils.
  • We’ll serve a variety of Passover dishes during the week. Please check the UCSC dining menu for specific options being served daily.

There will not be a mashgiach present during the cleaning, preparing, cooking, or serving, therefore our Passover dining hall options will not meet strict Kosher standards.

Kosher products in markets:

Beginning Friday, April 11, Merrill and Porter Markets will be selling a variety of Kosher items.
