Food Security
Food access and support at UCSC
UC Santa Cruz is committed to making sure every student has access to nutritious food. From accepting SNAP EBT at campus markets to providing meal support through Basic Needs, Slug Support, and the Swipes for Slugs program, there are resources in place to help students facing food insecurity.

Use SNAP EBT at UCSC markets
Students can use their CalFresh (SNAP EBT) benefits at two campus locations: Merrill Market and Porter Market. These markets offer a variety of groceries, snacks, and essentials—making it easier to shop for food without leaving campus.

Get help accessing food
UCSC’s Basic Needs and Slug Support programs connect students with vital food resources, including access to on-campus food pantries, donated meal swipes, and CalFresh enrollment support.
UCSC Dining supports this work through the Swipes for Slugs program, helping ensure students facing food insecurity can access meals in the campus dining halls.

On-campus food resources
UCSC is committed to supporting students facing food insecurity. From food pantries to emergency grocery resources, there are several ways to get help right here on campus.
