You Can Use Your Residence Hall Meal Plan at Oakes Cafe

While the Rachel Carson/Oakes Dining Hall is closed for renovations, Oakes Cafe will offer meals for Residence Hall meal plan holders, as a supplemental service for Rachel Carson College and Oakes College students who may not have the time to visit the nearest open dining hall.

To use your Residence Hall meal plan at Oakes Cafe, place your meal order using the GET app or website. Watch our video tutorial to learn how to get started with the GET app

  • Log into the GET app or website, then navigate to the Order or Explore section.
  • Scroll to find the UCSC Oakes 5 & 7 Day Menu
  • Tap Start an Order and make your meal selections.
  • Follow the prompts to add the meal to your cart and complete the transaction, choosing Meal To-Go as your payment method.

Meal To-Go balances reset each week. Residence Hall meal plan holders are able to use 1 Meal To-Go per meal period. Oakes Cafe offers three meal periods (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long do I have to pick up my order?

Order must be picked up within 10 minutes of the assigned pick-up time. After that, the order must be discarded for food safety reasons, and you will need to place a new order. No refund will be provided.

When will I be charged for my order?

You will be charged when you place the order (not when you pick up the order).

When can I pick up my order?

You can choose any pick-up time during normal business hours. The earliest pick-up time is 15 minutes after order time, but at peak times orders may take longer.

I placed an order, but when I went to the dining location, they had no record of it. Why?

Be on the lookout for an email from get-admin-group@ucsc.edu indicating that the transaction failed. This email will arrive in your inbox within about one minute if you are placing your order for pick up “ASAP”. If you place your orders well in advance, email notification of a transaction failure would arrive 15 minutes before your pick up time. Due to the software, order confirmation emails go out before the system knows whether the transaction has succeeded or failed. The GET app will only allow you to take 1 Meal To-Go per meal period. If you place another order within the same meal period, the transaction will fail and the order will not go through.

What’s the best way to place a successful order?

When you access the menu, you should pick your main food item first. Once that is selected, you will have the option to select whatever condiments may come with it, as well as a drink. Once you are finished with the selections, press the view cart button, then you can apply the form of payment (Meal To-Go) and finally press the Schedule Order 1 Meal button.

What if I’m having other technical issues with the GET app?

Email get-admin-group@ucsc.edu.

Do I need a face covering to pick up my meal?

Why can’t I add extra food or drinks to my 5 & 7 Day Menu Meal To-Go order? Isn’t my meal plan unlimited?

Residence Hall meal plans offer unlimited service at campus dining halls. Since the Oakes Cafe is not a dining hall, we cannot offer unlimited food and drink for these meal orders. We’ve built our 5 & 7 Day Menu meals as packages to offer convenience for students living in Rachel Carson College and Oakes College, to provide a supplemental service for when you don’t have time to visit Porter/Kresge Dining Hall, or any of our other open dining halls.

We hope you enjoy the convenience of ordering a meal online from the comfort of your residence hall. It’s our goal to support the Rachel Carson College and Oakes College communities while your “home dining hall” is undergoing renovations.
